Written by Bruce Cruser

Bruce Cruser has been Executive Director of Mental Health Virginia since 2016, bringing a background in social work and community corrections, and many years of leadership experience in local and state government.

Michael Shea of Arlington Independent Media filmed a 30 minute kitchen table type conversation about barriers to treatment and how to improve access to services. We were fortunate to be part of this discussion, which included:  Dr. Alyssa Ward of the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) and VCU, Anna Mendez of Partner for Mental Health in Charlottesville (and MHAV Board President), Albie LaFave of the Region 10 Community Services Board and Charlottesville/Albermarle Public Defender’s Office and Bruce Cruser from MHAV.
