Project Manager (full-time)
Mental Health America of Virginia is seeking a full-time, qualified professional to join our team as Project Manager. The position handles a variety of responsibilities, including managing our Peer Support Warm Line, providing administrative support for the Behavioral Health Advisory Council, helping develop and support our recovery training programs, and providing outreach education on mental health awareness and agency services. The position is based in Richmond, VA.
This position has primary responsibility for the agency’s state wide Warm Line for mental health listening and referral, including answering calls, updating protocol, recruiting, training and supervising volunteers and growing the service to include follow-up contacts and evening and weekend hours. The selected candidate should be able to draw upon his/her lived experience of recovery and provide support to people with co-occurring health issues.
The selected applicant will have demonstrated ability to manage projects independently while also working effectively as a team with other staff. Some work is done collaboratively with other organizations to improve mental health and reduce the conditions that impede mental wellness.
Minimum Qualifications:
Previous or current training for Peer Support Specialist, no less than two years of active recovery.
Comfortable working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Sensitive to and have an understanding of behavioral health conditions, including serious mental illnesses and addiction.
Able to support multiple pathways to recovery.
Knowledge of state and local community services and resources.
Good oral, written, listening and interpersonal communication skills.
Computer and social media skills.
Experience in organizing and managing projects.
Must be able to work on a team and participate with regional partners at team meetings, prepare reports, and be responsible for data collection.
Valid Virginia Drivers’ License and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications: A Certified Peer Recovery Specialist in Virginia. College classes or advanced training in behavioral health related topics.
Work Hours: Generally 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends for meetings, trainings or special projects.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and training.

Employment Opportunity for Peer Support Specialist (part-time)
Opioid Recovery Peer Support
Mental Health America of Virginia is seeking a qualified professional for a grant-funded position to share his/her lived experience of recovery and provide support to people with co-occurring health issues. The position will help address the opioid epidemic by providing peer support in response to overdoses in hospital emergency departments, and warm line phone support through listening, encouragement and referral to community resources.
Funding is for up to 25 hours/week, with work hours primarily in the 4:00 p.m. to midnight range, with the exact schedule to be determined. Some additional day hours may be available on a limited basis through other funding. The selected applicant will work as a member of a cross-agency team to ensure coverage during hours of most frequent need for services.
The Peer Support Specialist will provide emotional and informational support to individuals both in the community and in an Emergency Department setting in the metro Richmond area, and assist in the ongoing operation of a Warm Line Project, which offers telephonic recovery support and resources primarily for individuals in the Richmond, Chesterfield and Goochland/Powhatan region.
Qualifications:
Must have a valid Virginia Drivers’ License and available transportation. Applicant must be a trained Peer Support Specialist with no less than two years of active recovery. Must be able to support multiple pathways to recovery. Must be comfortable working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and be sensitive to and have an understanding of behavioral health conditions, including serious mental illnesses and addiction.
